Churros is a traditional Spanish delicacy, originally eaten by Spanish shepherds. Spending days up in the mountains tending to their sheep made it impossible for them to enjoy fresh baked produce. So they adapted a local bread recipe which was simple to prepare out on the hills. The only way to cook their bread dough was to fry it in a pan over an open fire. They then added sugar and cinnamon for flavour.
The tasty snack gets its name from its shape, which resembles the horns of the Churra breed of sheep.
Churros are fried at a very hot temperature then rolled in sugar and cinnamon and often dipped in thick hot chocolate. The surface of a Churro is ridged from being piped from a churrera, an extruder with a star-shaped nozzle which allows the dough to have a crispy outside whilst the inside is fully cooked.
In Spain Churros is still a very popular breakfast snack, as well as at the end of a night out! It is also enjoyed throughout South America, USA, Canada and Australia. And now Churros Bros are bringing it to the UK
